Online Flash Lesson Free - The stacking order

Groups and Symbols can be stacked relative to each other using Arrange from the Modify menu. Its options are:
Arranging the stacking order

  • Bring to Front: Puts the selected object on top of the rest.
  • Move Ahead: Brings the selected object one level above.
  • Move Behind: Takes the selected object one step lower in the stacking order.
  • Send to Back: The selected object is moved at the lower most level of the stacking order.
(Note: Stacking works only on groups and symbols)

Let's look at some examples:
Stacking of three objects
In the figure on the left, we have three objects. The circle has been stacked at the lowest level. Above it is the rectangle and the square is at the top.
Sending the square at the back
Applying the Send to Back option on the square places it at the lower most stacking level. Now, the order from bottom to top is: square - circle - rectangle.
Circle is moved one level up
The circle can now be brought to the front by Move Ahead option. The stacking order is square - rectangle - circle.
