The next lesson we'll try to get a real effect of the rain on a simple picture and decorate it with a rainbow, which must be done also by ourselves.
I used this image: Coldstream Mill from Flickr.
1. Open our picture and select out of the Layer menu the selection New Adjustment Layer > Curves. Set on the curve two points, giving it the S letter's shape, to enlarge the image's contrast. Press OK then.

2. Select in the menu the next option: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation to create a new adjustment layer. The Saturation slider should be on the -32 value, press OK also after that.

3. Choose now out of the Layer menu another option - New Fill Layer > Solid Color. Press OK to create a layer.
Select in the Color picker window a very dark-blue color or even the black one.
Change its Blending Mode on Multiply and bring down the Opacity's value till 70%.
4. Select Solid Color layer and click on Layer Mask, take then the Brush Tool (B). Give it the black color as a working color. Choose after that a brush of a small diameter with softer edges, giving it the Opacity of 75%, and try to paint very accurately the buildings in the mask.
5. Removing the color out of several details like grass and trees is possible if reducing the level of the brush's Opacity till 50%, after that painting the details with black color. Leave the color on the picture's top half and bottom.
6. Create a New layer and make a click on the Gradient Tool. Click on the gradient preview in the options bar. Make another click on the small black pointer in the Gradient Editor dialog box, the pointer being situated on the right top part of the window. Select in the menu showing up the Special Effects.
We are interested only to preset gradient Russell's Rainbow.
Make a click on light gray 'color stop' over gradient line and insert the 75 value in the Location field.

sunlight is essential for a rainbow, and with this dark sky there's not enough light.. so much for the "real" (although it should be "realistic")..
