In this tutorial you will learn how to create a Roman Mosaic Texture like you see in museums with only a few steps. This tutorial is so easy anyone who has adobe Photoshop can do it. Hope you like it.

To create  this mosaic tutorial  the first thing we need is a suitable picture. I found this one and I am going to open it in Photoshop.

Click on the Channels tab and there, you will create a new channel by clicking the icon marked in red.

 Name it cracks. This channel is automatically filled black.

Now click on Filter/Texture/Stained Glass and choose the size of the mosaics for your picture.

Once you find the proper size click OK to accept the settings. Control-Click the Cracks channel to select it.

Go back to your Layers and it will look like ants are marching all over it.

Click on Select-Inverse, then Edit-Copy and finally on Edit-Paste.  All the pieces should be in a new layer now.

All the pieces should be in a new layer now. Hold Control down and click on the new layer icon like we did earlier to create a new layer. Fill that layer with a white color or a light texture if you have it. Select the part with the cracks in it and click on Layer-Layer Style-Blending Options and from the menu that pops up select Drop Shadow.

 

Do not click OK just yet.

Now we will select Bevel and Emboss and after you do so, click OK and you are done!

 

For the final steps there are a few other things you can do to get the same result with other textures being the end result.  This tutorial will hopefully awaken your creativity.

Pass the mouse on top of the picture to see the Before and After.
