step 1

Select a part/portion/small area of grass. Copy and paste it on Neptune background.
Call this layer as 'grass'.

step 2

Ctrl click on the 'grass' layer so that the area gets selected.
Now create another layer and call it 'folds'.

Dress folds:
Select the gradient tool.(linear gradient)
Use default colors (black foreground,white background)
Mode:difference
Opacity :100%
Check dither and transparency
Drag it as shown to get the folds

step 3

You will get the desired effect after 8-9 drags.
Folds look some what like this.

Click half white half black button in the layers palette
And select gradient

step 5

Set the blending mode for this gradient fill layer to multiply.

Hide grass and Neptune background layer.(click on the eye icon in layers palette to hide)
Go to layers >merge visible.(when merging layers we need to hide some layers so that some layers wont get merged)
