I found this
tutorial online, originally offered by Jason Hartgraves which he called 'Bling Bling' Text. I thought it was a
cool effect to share with others. Thank you Jason.
1. Open a new
image, 400 x 400 (or larger depending on how many letters you wish to
use), RGB, white background, 72 dpi.
2. Set foreground color to
black
(press 'D' key). Select type tool and you want to use a heavy-ish
font such as Arial Black, Size 92. Type your word.
3. Maker a
selection of your text layer by Control clicking on that layer.

4. Insert a New
Layer. We now want to select the gradient tool. The Linear gradient used should
be black to white. Drag the gradient tool from top to bottom of the
text.

5. Keep the
selection and go to Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur 2.2.
6. Then go to
Filter/Render/Lighting Effects. Enter the following settings.

Your image should now look like this.
7. Still keeping the selection, go to Image/Adjust/Curves and select the
following settings.
Your image should now look something like this
8.
You now need to
go to Select/Modify/Contract by 6 pixels. Create a new layer and
fill the selection with white (click on the inner area of the highlight
with paint bucket)..

9. Still keeping
the selection, go to Filter/Noise/Add Noise, settings 40%, uniform and
monochromatic. Repeat this step by hitting Ctrl+F.
10. We can now
deselect by using Ctrl+D. Go to Layer Style by double clicking on
current layer. The required settings are as follows:

11. Now click on Layer 1 and select
Image/Adjust/Hue/Saturation. Ensure colorize box is checked. Set Hue
at 34, Saturation at 49 and Lightness at +11.
12. Finally, double
click on layer 1 to bring up layer styles and select drop shadow, use
the following settings:
 Your text should
now look like this:
