Reaching for the Abyss

Download these three images from the net to complete this tutorial

1. Open a new canvas that is 1000 wide by 1300 high, RGB 72 ppi, white. Hit your d key and Fill the background using your paint bucket with black.

2. Open your Galaxy. Use your move tool to drag the image onto your canvas. Stretch and turn your canvas so the angle of the galaxy is diagonal from top left to lower right. It may hang over the edge as mine did.

3. Open your building image. Use your move tool to drag it onto your canvas.

4. Click Edit=> transform=> Flip Horizontal.

5. Using the polygonal lasso tool, select the church building and only tallest spire. Hit your add layer mask button on the bottom on the layers panel. Set this layer to Multiply and use your move tool to position the tallest spire over the center of your galaxy cloud.

6. Insert a new layer. Hit your D key. Click Filter=> Render=>Clouds.

7. Click Image=> adjust=> hue saturation.

  • colorize = checked
  • Hue = 227
  • saturation = 100
  • lightness = -40

8. Click Filter=> Brush Stroke=> Accented edges. Set them to

  • edge width = 2
  • edge brightness = 50
  • smoothness =5

9. Click filter=>pixelate=>mosaic. set the size to 30.

10. Click filter=> sharpen=> sharpen. Follow that command with control F for 5 times to repeat the sharpening 5 more times..

11. Set this layer to color dodge.

Resize to the size you want it.
