step 1

A simple ribbon banner will consist of 5 elements. I have created this very quickly with the pen tool. This is very simple to reproduce just remember to create a new path layer in the path window. I have highlighted the points so it is easier to reproduce it. Remember ctrl + h will show / hide your path.

step 2

Alright cool, now we have to select each individual element, make a new layer for each and fill that layer with that particular element. I have just selected an element using the convert point tool but you can use others if you wish. Right click and hit "Make Selection". A pop-up window will come up, leave all the default values.

step 3

Now we have an element selection, make a new layer and fill it with a colour, i have chosen black. You must repeat step 2 and step 3 for each element, remember to make a new layer for each element.

step 4

Alright now we got all the elements in layers. Now we must make sure the layers are in the correct order, please note the order i have used.

step 5

Now you have to put it together, firstly make your two middle layers grey so you can see the difference between the layers. Not really important but will help. Now select both those layers and move them up like so.
